The work week from September 23rd to September 27th, 2013, the team of Mobility Challenge in partnership with Health Education and Research Association (HERA) and Center for Research on Women with Disabilities (CROWD) from Houston, Texas conducted workshops on topic " Sexual Rights and Reproductive Health". One work meeting with women with physical disabilities was conducted on September 24, 2013. Participation on this meeting took 11 women with disabilities from Macedonia, Dr. Fletcher and Clinic Consultant Melissa Morison. Executive Director of Center for Research of Women with Disabilities (CROWD), Margaret A. Nosek, PhD and Executive Director of Mobility Challenge Jagoda Risteska join us through skype.
Dr. Nosek presented work of CROWD, with special focus on beginning of their work. It was interesting to learn that the women in Macedonia today face the same challenges that women with disabilities from Texas were facing 20 years ago.
This was first meeting of women with disabilities from Macedonia on this topic, and they were all delighted that we “dare” to open and work on this field. With this meeting we met our goal gathering information about current position, opportunities and challenges of women with physical disabilities in Macedonia, regarding sexual and reproductive health. As well there was a space for asking specific questions that Dr. Fletcher and Melissa gladly answer them.
One month before in- country exchange start we as team developed online questionnaire on Survey Monkey for women with disabilities in Macedonia.
Main goal of this questionnaire is to gather more as possible information for current situation and issues of this group of women, regarding sexual and reproductive health, with aim developing strategies for addressing those issues in future.
With this work meeting and questionnaire we reach our goal- gathering information about current position, opportunities and challenges of women with physical disabilities in Macedonia, regarding sexual and reproductive health
